Art Show Opening = Yay!

If you are in Seattle tomorrow consider heading to the Great Nabob for an art show and some drinking! Peter Clarke is displaying a bunch of fantastic acrylic paintings. I'll be over there around 9:30pm if you want to say hey and hi-five. There may be a smattering of famous ArenaNet artists there as well. :)

Come for the art, stay for the art and good times!

Taz was chewing on my neck so I put him on my monitor and drew for a bit.

dragon color wip

This was drawn by me in pencil and then inked and painted with watercolors by James. We sold the sketch at the ECCC, but I really liked this dragon and almost had second thoughts about selling him. I'm painting the picture I took of him in Photoshop.

One more thing about ECCC...

If you aren't familiar with Hark, A Vagrant! please click that link and be entertained.
I owe Kate Beaton about a million karma points for scaring the nerds out of her.
Also, here is store full of awesome merchandises!

My life lesson is not to pop up behind anyone in a glowing demon mask screaming fat pony anymore, it doesn't go well. ;_;

ECCC Art Table Stats

When I do go forth into the world of man I like to keep track of the venture. Partly to keep my head level and partly so I can post the information here. I think information about the business end of art, even the poor record I keep, should be open for others to know about. Outside of commercial art it's kinda rough out there making a living artistically. Well, maybe I'm just bad at it. Anyway, have a peek!

Here's the business:

Inventory:
1 in buttons 2 for 1 buck
red dragon prints 15 bucks
mini octopus prints 5 bucks
sketchbooks 15 bucks
papercraft cds 10 bucks

Expenses:
Artist Alley Table 187 bucksish -40(I got a little money from a friend plus really great free prints)
Paper and Ink for prints 70 bucks
Printer 180 bucks
70 Sketchbooks 543.84
(I didn't need to pay for extra things like pens, business cards, and displays because I had them from last year.)
Total 940.84

Intake:
997 bucks
Minus Sales Tax Total 902.28

Yay I'm in the RED! Plus next year I will get hit for additional income tax as well.
It is interesting that I can take in so much and not even break even and I didn't even include food expenses. If I hadn't got the printer I would have been nice and black, so in the future at least that won't be an expense. Also I have books and prints left over that I can continue to sell in the future which will help even things out a bit. Still though, not a ton of money for the amount of work before, during, and after the convention.

Compare this year to previous years with similar wares.

Intake 2009:
322 bucks
Profit of 104 bucks

Intake 2007:

456 bucks
Profit of 334 bucks

Super Punch Tarot Card

Super Punch is forming a tarot card deck to celebrate it's third anniversary, check the cards out here: http://superpunch.blogspot.com

Here is my contribution towards the deck, the Six of Coins/Pentacles.
My idea about this card is an easy come easy go moment. This creature is absolutely excited about his good fortune and cares more about the moment than actually keeping a hold of the goods. Coins spill everywhere and the feeling of prosperity spreads to others. We are in for a good time, if just for a short while. Don't worry though, I'm sure more is on the way!

Quick ECCC note

Thanks to everyone I met at this years ECCC. I had a blast! :) A bit tired though especially with the unexpected daylight savings kicking in. I'll post a bit about how I did this year. Maybe get a photo or two uploaded.

I'm so happy Matt and Trevor were able to show with us. Plus they did themselves justice!

Emerald City Comicon

March 13th and 14th I will be at table I-08 in the artist alley selling my new sketchbook and prints. The sketchbook Rawr! Dos is my second sketchbook and is 148 pages crammed full of personal artwork from 2009. The book costs 15 dollars. I will be with fellow Guild Wars artists Kristen Perry and Matt Barrett. Come chat us up and check out some nifty drawings!

You can see a preview of Rawr! Dos here:

an indulgent sigh

I got the How to Train Your Dragon art book a week or so ago. I just flipped through it again. Nico Marlet has the distinct talent of making my fingers momentarily wither so that I can't draw any more. I hear a little voice that I ignore and it is saying why bother. Such beautiful lines!

If you haven't seen the dragon book yet it is much better than the Kung Fu Panda book, and I adore that book. Pick it up if you haven't. Apparently the sites selling it have god awful page previews that make it look kind of lack luster.

Cars and Rockets, Mostly.

Matt Barrett, my friend and coworker, just put up his sketchbook on Lulu. If you like vehicles and epic landscapes you may find this is the best book you ever laid eyes and hands on.

Matt is also going to be hanging out with Kristen and I at this year's Emerald City Comicon again. So track us down and get him to sign a copy!
